I'm Mike,
nice to meet you.
My name is Michael but usually, people refer to me as Mike and I am based in Ireland. I have an inquisitive mind and don't remember a time I wasn't passionate about technology and psychology.

I found my love for User Experience Design while completing my undergraduate degree in Multimedia (2.1), a broad study area, but UX Design quickly grabbed my attention.
After graduating from university in 2020 I wanted to further my knowledge in this area, so I enrolled in the UX Design Institute to complete their professional diploma in UX Design (grade achieved: 79%).

In 2022 I decided to return to education where I completed a professional certificate in User Interface Design with the UX Design Institute (grade achieved 79%).

Currently, I am working towards a postgraduate diploma in user experience design at Dun Laoghaire Institute Of Art Design + Technology and I am set to graduate in May 2024.

This is a part-time course that I am completing while working in an IT support role.

Books

A very common book for someone to read at the beginning of their UX career, this is because how well he explains web usability.

Steven Dubner and Steven Levitt's ability to breakdown the world and understand it through data is something which all good UX Designers should learn from.

Another great economics book that is empathetic towards people and tries to understand their irrational behaviour in a non judging way.

I have the desire to begin my career as a UX researcher and designer. I have a strong background in IT support which has given me a direct line with helping and understanding the end user's goals, pain points and mental models with their digital products. This coupled with my many UX and visual design qualifications makes me an appropriate self-starter for any role.
Here is a list of some of the books I'm reading and audio that I'm listening to. Not everything here is directly related to UX Design but has relevant psychological aspects that are applicable to the industry.
Audio

A podcast that celebrates failure which is something a UX Designer needs to do in the event of a failed project to see where they can learn and grow.

Steven Dubner's great interview skills and ability to really understand the person he is interviewing is how all usability tests should be conducted.

A UX podcast that discusses everything bar UX! However when they do discuss UX their advice is superb.
